Good forecasts for the Berlin labor market

In 2023, the Berlin labor market was able to build on the success of the years before the pandemic. With 2.19 million people in employment, Berlin recorded the second strongest percentage increase of all federal states with a rise of 1.6 percent. Although the number of unemployed is rising slightly, the number of employees subject to social security contributions is also rising to a new record high of 1.69 million.

In 2023, the number of people in employment increased by 1.6 percent compared with the previous year to more than 2.19 million. That is approx. 34,000 more people than in 2022. The number of unemployed rose to an average of 187,000 compared to the previous year, bringing the unemployment rate to 9.1 percent (0.3 percentage points higher than 2022).

The multi-cultural metropolis of Berlin continues to attract more and more international talent: in 2023 approx. 950,000 foreign nationals lived in the capital. They make up 24.4 percent of the population. Berlin is and remains interesting for everyone: for university graduates and young professionals as well as experienced professionals.
